报道称，近年来，中国把海上和陆上丝绸之路作为“一带一路”倡议的一部分加以推广，并指出重振这些古代贸易路线的努力将给参与国带来新的财富和发展机会。报道指出，这是该市第二次申请世界遗产地位 2018年世界遗产委员会在巴林召开会议时，“古泉州史迹”项目的申请被发还待议。张磊说，发还待议意味着申请方需要提供更多的信息，国家文物局与“专业国际机构”合作，进行了重大技术性调整，并以“泉州：宋元中国的世界海洋商贸中心”项目重新提出申请。他说：“主题更加鲜明，价值阐述更加清晰完整。”
