A new residential development at the Port of Airlie will not be approved until Whitsunday councillors personally inspect the proposed site to assess the appropriateness of more multi-unit lots.
It would give them time to visit the site and consider whether plans to build new dwellings, including a four-storey apartment building, were compatible with the waterfront precinctâs existing commercial activities.
Councillors were not convinced by planning officersâ assurances the proposed development was ânot a bad fitâ for the area, raising concerns about a potential clash between residential living and commercial activities associated with the portâs existing marine and bus terminals, which would be in close proximity.
A family trip to Whitehaven quickly turned sour courtesy of two parking fines, sparking outrage from a group of travellers who said they were âripped offâ while trying to boost the Whitsunday tourism industry.
Coby Van Den Elst travelled to Bowen from Townsville to be with her son and daughter-in-law for Christmas.
Other family members joined him from the Gold Coast and Turkey Beach.
As part of their Whitsunday escape, they booked a tour to Whitehaven Beach.
âWe thought it would be a really good way to get out there ⦠so off we went, and we were so excited because the weather was so perfect after a bit of rain,â she said.
