Port Huron police cancel safety alert after armed suspect apprehended

Suspect arraigned, victim ID d following New Year s Day death

The identities of the suspect and victim of a New Year's Day murder in Port Huron have been released. According to Port Huron Police, 46 year old Robert Kimin Tonchen is accused of killing 33 year old Stephanie Thompson who's body was found with obvious signs of trauma in a parked vehicle in the 2700 hundred block of Vanness Street. Tonchen was arrested by the Port Huron Police Special Response Team later that day and is booked in the St. Clair County Jail. Yesterday, he was arraigned on charges open murder, tampering with evidence, and fourth degree arson. Tonchen is currently being held without bond and is due back in court for a probable cause conference January 11th.

Suspect arrested following New Year s Day murder

A 46 year old Port Huron man is in custody following the death of a 33 year old Port Huron woman New Year's Day. Port Huron Police officers were called to a home in the 2700 block of Vanness Street around 5:45am Saturday on reports of a dead body found in a parked vehicle. Around 11am, the Port Huron Police Special Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2600 block Manuel Street in Port Huron. The suspect was interviewed by authorities and was booked in the St. Clair County Jail on charges of open murder. The victim's body was turned over to the St. Clair County Medical Examiner's Office and is pending identification.
