Santa Claus comes to town tonight in Port Huron. Stepping off at 6pm is the Sperry's Santa Clause Parade followed by the annual tree lighting of Port Huron's Christmas tree. The tree lighting will once again take place near the Community Foundation at Military and Water Streets due to ongoing construction at the McMorran Plaza. Port Huron's Downtown Development Authority Director Cynthia Cutright says while you're downtown for the tree lighting, be sure to visit one of the many locally owned stores and restaurants. She tells WPHM you can find gifts for everyone on your holiday shopping list in Downtown Port Huron, with many stores offering specials for Small Business Saturday too.

Port Huron City Council has approved the a plan to design new wayfinding signs throughout the City of Port Huron, including the Downtown area. During Monday's city council meeting, members approved a $9500 bid from Valley City Signs of Comstock Park to identify types, locations, and a design for the new signage. Cynthia Cutright, director of the Port Huron Downtown Development Authority, says the new sign design will be unique to the city of Port Huron and will help direct locals and visitors alike to things such as attractions, historic markers, and even parking. "One of the things that we hear quite often for downtown is that there is no parking," said Cutright. "There's plenty of parking downtown, we can use these signs to help educate people about our downtown." Cutright says representatives from Valley City Signs will be vising the downtown area to decide the best type and placement for the signs. She expects the signs to be installed by next summer.
