THUNDER BAY The return to lock-down status means curlers will have two fewer places to finish off the 2020-21 season.
Directors with the Port Arthur Curling Club on Sunday, and the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club on Saturday, announced their facilities will shut its doors until next fall, saying the sport simply can t continue this winter.
Mr. Cyril Wrightsell, age 94 years a resident of The Walford, passed away on Thursday, January 14th at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Born on September 13, 1926, Cyril lived a full and enjoyable life. A natural athlete, Cy was part of the Pine Street hockey playing brothers. He excelled in playing both junior hockey for the West End Bruins and senior hockey for the Port Arthur Bearcats. During his hockey days he met Ruth, the woman he would later marry and share 69 years with. His love and devotion to her was especially evident during her final years at Roseview Nursing Home when he would make a point of visiting her nearly every day.
Major League of Curling hopeful of February return
With five draws remaining before playoffs, games would be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting Feb. 17.

THUNDER BAY – The area’s top curlers are hoping to get back into the hack by mid-February.
Tbaytel Major League of Curling on Wednesday unveiled a tentative schedule that would have teams return to action on Feb. 17 at the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club.
Rather than weekly outings, games would be scheduled twice a week, with matches also played on Saturday, Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.
The playoffs would be held on March 6 at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
Burgess blanks Weiss in 2020 finale

THUNDER BAY Bryan Burgess fired a rare curling shutout on Wednesday night.
The veteran skip opened with four in the first end, stole a pair in the second and singles in the third and fourth ends and downed Gary Weiss 8-0 in Tbaytbel Major League of Curling play at Port Arthur Curling Club.
The two teams shook hands after the fourth end Burgess improving to 6-2, alone in second. Weiss slipped below .500 to 4-5.
