WHILE my Rosa has her own chilli-fest, we will be staging our own garlic festival this side of The Solent. On the day I ordered my daughter’s Christmas chilli list of seed varieties ranging from the mild padron and sweet habanada, to the highly decorative cheiro roxa, the aji omnicolour, and the hottest chilli in India, the rare teja I went for a walk, followed by a light and, subsequently, stinky lunch at the Garlic Farm, Newchurch. A positive side-effect of the meal and indeed of Covid was we were shepherded through what was the exhibition space, and now the shop.
