Ministers review progress on family planning

LAHORE:Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid and Minister for Population Welfare Col (retd) Hashim Dogar chaired a meeting to review performance of different committees on family planning and way forward at the Population Welfare Department here on Thursday.
Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Capt (retd) Usman Younis, Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Barrister Nabeel Awan, Dr Khurram Khan, Ali Babar from Population Welfare Department and Dr Zulfiqar Ali were present in the meeting. The officials of the Population Welfare Department gave a progress review and tabled suggestions to improve the performance.

Population Welfare Dept’s achievements enumerated

PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Population Welfare, Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah, said on Thursday steps were being taken to strike a balance between the population and resources.
This he said while speaking at a press conference on the two-year performance of his department, said an official handout.
According to the 2017 census, the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (including the merged districts) is 35.55 million, he said, adding the annual population growth rate of KP has been recorded at 2.89 per cent.
He said despite the increase in the population, the performance indicators of the Population Welfare Department have improved.
Three new variants of COVID-19 have been detected in recent weeks, leading to increased vigilance across the world as officials say a variant found in the United Kingdom could be up to 70 percent more transmissible.
However, none of the variants so far has been found to be more fatal, or more likely to be able to evade vaccines or treatments.
A new variant was first reported in the United Kingdom on December 14. Named VUI-202012/01 (the first Variant Under Investigation in December 2020), it is thought to have first appeared in mid-September.
Referred to by some experts as the B117 lineage, this has rapidly become the dominant strain in cases of COVID-19 in many parts of the UK.
