The pentagon for its part watching the political infighting going on has been trying to pre position weaponry where it can so that those weapons can head to ukraine, head to troops on the ground sooner rather than later. Potentially within days as opposed to weeks. That doesnt rule out the prospect of further political infighting despite the fact that congresswoman nancy pelosi had called to sign off on the bill for ukraine. We know that it had been facing resistance from the republican party. They had wanted ties to strict immigration laws, Stricter Border security with the us mexico border. That particular vote failed. They needed a two thirds majority so that did not come to pass. Instead what you saw with the ukraine bill is that more republicans voted against it than actually voted in favour. We know that Republican Congress woman Marjorie Greene has signalled her intention to potentially oust the Republican House speaker mikejohnson over this filing a motion to vacate. She said s

rishi sunak, now prime minister, then chancellor, had launched the eat out to help out scheme to get people back into restaurants and pubs over that first summer of covid in 2020. but he had not consulted them before launching that. clearly, they made it clear, they took something of a dim view of that. that was last week, that was the science, this week we are back with the politicians. today, starting this morning with sadiq khan, mayor of london, and we also have mayors from the north west of england, steve rotherham, liverpool, greater manchester, andy burnham, couple of elements there, remember, there were restrictions brought in on a hot dry basis initially in the autumn of 2020 to effectively try to play wacko mole as hotspots popped up. that then gave way to a more structured tiers system which was supposed to solve some of the regularities and standardise the procedure across the country. i suspect we will get into a lot of that, plus other questions like sadiq khan
something hamas denies. for more on all this, i spoke with our diplomatic correspondent paul adams, who is injerusalem. thanks forjoining us. these reports coming out of gaza paint a grim picture of the humanitarian situation there. what more can you tell us about how hospitals in gaza are coping? well, with great difficulty. they are all pretty much surrounded in gaza city, because the israelis argue these are places where hamas fighters have based themselves, and consequently there have been intense battles going on around us hospitals. the israelis say they are not targeting hospitals per se, and they are trying to get the civilian populations that are clustered around them to try to leave, and also starting to think about evacuating the hospitals themselves, so that israel can concentrate on dealing with hamas. there is a small development on that front this evening. the israelis said tomorrow they are going to evacuate babies from the shifa hospital to a safer location.
