MUMBAI: As the government chalks out the Covid-19 vaccine timelines, teachers’ groups in the city have demanded that they be prioritized to ensure that learning for lakhs of children resumes at the earliest.
In a letter to the chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray and health minister, Rajesh Tope, the BJP teachers’ union has demanded that teachers be included among frontline workers in the vaccination drive.
“Although schools are closed in Mumbai and in some cities up to December 31, permission has been given to start schools in most parts in the state. Many parents are still unwilling to send their children to school for fear of the Covid-19 infection and have said that they will do so only after the teachers and students are vaccinated. While online education works for a few, it isn’t available for many and students are losing out on crucial academic learning time.
