An event of historic importance at Jesselton was the formal opening of the $14,000.00 building of the Sacred Heart Church on Sunday the 14th August. Though the finishing touches (painting etc.) are yet to be given, the spacious edifice measuring 140 ft by 42 ft with a seating accommodation for over 500 people and its surroundings presented an attractive appearance when a great concourse of our cosmopolitan population arrived before the appointed time.
In addition to a large number of Catholics for whom it was indeed a red-letter day, the gathering was representative of many Non-Catholics and Non-Christians including a couple of be turbaned sikhs, and the ladies in their multicoloured dressed added to the glamour of the occasion.

A new statue commissioned by the Youth section of St Dominic, in Valletta. The statue was inaugurated last Sunday by Archbishop Charles Scicluna following the Pontifical High Mass commemorating the feast of St Dominic. The statue was crafted in papier-maché by Gozitan artist Manwel Grech. The youth section commissioned this statue to commemorate its 10th anniversary and 800 years from the death of their patron saint.

Ecclesia Dei Commission, the Vatican dicastery that supervises the observance and application of the norms in the 2007 motu proprio concerning the Traditional Latin Mass, welcomed back its secretary, Guido Pozzo. As a monsignor he had served in that position from 2009 to 2012, during which time he coordinated the doctrinal discussions between the Society of Saint Pius X and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (to which
Ecclesia Dei is directly attached). In November of 2012 Msgr. Pozzo was appointed Almoner of His Holiness and was consecrated an archbishop (a title traditionally connected with that post). In April of this year Archbishop Pozzo was also named a consultor to the CDF, in which he had worked for years when it was headed by then-Cardinal Ratzinger.
