The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) has successfully converted around 1985 kilogrammes of confiscated banned single-use polythene bags into green benches and planters in its effort to contain maximum damage to the environment and nature. Director General, Pak-EPA, Farzana Altaf Shah flanked by Director Labs and National Environmentally Quality Standards (NEQS), EPA, Dr Zaigham Abbas held a joint media briefing intended to apprise the environmental journalists on the promising development of the environmental watchdog transforming plastic prohibition into a win-win opportunity for the consumers and industries

ISLAMABAD: Having spearheaded public awareness campaign regarding ban on polythene bags and its harmful environmental impacts, Minister of State Zartaj Gul Wazir on Tuesday warned citizens to shun manufacturing, selling and using polythene bags or face huge fines and confiscations. “Experiences have shown that the use of polythene bags has already played havoc with environment, natural ecosystems and public health. We no longer afford and tolerate manufacturing, sale, import and use of the environmental nuisance anymore,” she said while talking to media after sending off polythene bags ban enforcement teams to various business centres of the capital city. She said those who did not shun the use of polythene bags despite sufficient availability of alternative bags at affordable prices were actually foes of the people and environment.

Minister promises plastic bag ban violators won’t be spared Islamabad March 3, 2021 Islamabad : While leading a campaign for public awareness of the harmful impact of polythene bags on the environment and public health, state minister for climate change Zartaj Gul Wazir on Tuesday warned that the violators of the ban on single-use plastic bags in Islamabad wouldn’t be spared. “Polythene bags have played havoc with the environment, natural ecosystems, and public health, so we can no longer afford and tolerate the manufacturing, sale, import, and use of the environmental nuisance. Those not shunning their use despite the adequate availability of affordable alternatives on the market are actually foes of the people and environment and we will go after them,” the minister told reporters after sending off the polythene bag ban enforcement teams to various business centres of the capital city.
