they feel that they would in some way risk the general election. and i think that s basically what we are seeing this particular poll reflect. doug, what s happening to elizabeth warren s campaign? granted, a poll is a snapshot in time. but for the sake of this conversation let s just game it out. is pete buttigieg eating into her standing? well, what happened is she faced scrutiny for the first time in this campaign in a way she hasn t faced since before she got in the race and was dealing with issues related to her dna. and i think that her opponents were successful in generating questions about her medicare for all plan, how she would pay for it, whether taxes would go up on the middle class, private insurance, the price tag. and that had an impact, clearly. i think the dynamic we are seeing from a polling standpoint right now is that you have two frontrunners. you have mayor pete in the early states in iowa and new hampshire and then you have joe biden
cartels that in a compulsory way force local businesses to give up cash and resources to facilitate the caravan. martha: we know there is nefarious players at work in a lot of this. in some cases taking advantage of the people. is there indication that there are more people pushing to the border now than a few weeks ago? and that there is any connection whatsoever to our impending mid-term election? i believe that the left is trying to create a crisis on the border because if you look at the first two years of president trump s time in office, i think the low point from a polling standpoint was when there was this family separation issue. i think that there are those on the left who would like nothing more than to see the republicans struggle with the women and children at the border. and heart-wrenching images that it creates. it s odd to me that they had women and children separated from men when it came to giving out this cash. and while there is sort of a robin hood element of
say look, we re going to give $500,000 to the first five people who drop out. honestly, like i don t like an airline. they re going to having to have more debates. and i wouldn t be surprised if they figure out like let s draw lots. we have the squad a and squad b and we re just going to do two different debates. michael, i think that s actually not a terrible idea if you re talking about okay, we re not going to cap it. i think you re right. trying to cap it, it s very hard to see how. it s a problem. it s a real problem. it s particularly a problem because of the fiorina problem. she s going to be polling near the bottom someone that would be a natural person to be on the wrong side of a cutoff. you ve got the bobby jindal and ben carson problem, as well. that s right. although let s be clear. ben carson if you just did a polling cutoff is going to be in the clear. he s up in the top of his field from a polling standpoint. bobby jindal is more
senate. what do you think you will be voting on this weekend in the house? well, thank you for having me on. the fundamental problem is, nobody knows what we will be voting on, john boehner doesn t know, the republicans are fighting a civil war. they haven t fixed out an exit strategy and every time they meet, they fight and every time they fight, they inflict further damage on the economy and on the country. look, i think we have a path to win 17 seats in 2014. what concerns me is what these house republicans are going to do to the country between now and then. well, let me ask you, i m thinking back to the last, we ve had a lot of these dramas. the one that comes to mind is the debt ceiling drama in 2011. we went up to the wire. obviously, that clearly hurt the republican party s brand, if you can call it that. i also remember the summer of 2011, the lowest point from a polling standpoint from barak barak. we have polling that came out
know enough about it. you don t want to get into sources and methods and the rest of that but don t you think he has to come out and speak to that? it s pillars to that conversation. you saw the head of the nsa coming out but they ve worked for the president. now is the time for the president to step out and have a fuller conversation? yes, it is. i think that s what you re going to see. we know that the president does not like to do oval office addresses to the nation. you really can t count that many that he s done since he s been in office. do you think from a polling standpoint, from a public opinion standpoint, is now the time for him to perhaps consider that as a possibility? would that go a long way? i m not going to get into the vehicle. you see him rolling out doing a blitz, doing different talk shows. i think it s a good idea overall. this will pass. what will not pass is the ways of washington being broken. the president will be hit his
