irony in all this because trump s lawyers say this all about transparency, we want more information out there. and jack smith is saying, no, you re trying to use this information to harass witnesses, and any way you just did the full ginsburg says trump s lawyer, meaning he did all the sunday showsch you showed your hand in trying to try this case in the court of public opinion, and besides the ironic part is if you really were about transparency, you seem to want a speedy trial because that would get all the evidence out in the public as soon as possible, but trump s legal team is trying to do the opposite. they want to push this well past the 2024 election, not quite a transparent motivation. and certainly, you know, some balance needs to be struck here. he s also running for president. there s going to be expectation he can talk about some of those posts and comments over the weekend certainly appear to go too far. there s more legal stories about

absolute weapon. trump got a rock star welcome in cedar rapids, iowa and told sean hannity that president biden is compromised and should be impeached. the former president usually sees a big bump in polling after news of an investigation. we ll see if that happens again. but look at this. new university of new hampshire poll shows trump s grip in the granite state over governor desantis has slipped to 14 points. back in april a similar survey had him ahead by 20 points. something to watch there. desantis spent yesterday hoping for a campaign reset, bill, in the first in the state of south carolina. instead, yep, he spent the day defending his rival. he should have come out more forcefully. of course that. but to try to criminalize that, that s a different issue entirely and i think that we want to be in a situation where you don t have one side just
sam stein is with us this morning. donald trump is losing some support among republican primary voters. in the latest cnn survey, 47% of registered republican and republican-leaning independents say trump is their choice to lead the 2024 ticket. that is down 6% from a poll taken last month. but still 21 points higher than florida governor ron desantis who is in second place. former vice president mike pence, and former u.n. ambassador nikki haley round out the top 4 with no other candidate polling above 5%. the poll shows trump s favorability rating has fallen 10 points among republicans since last month from 77% to 67%. additionally 27% now say they have an unfavorable view of the former president compared to 18%
both of those are less serious than trump s alleged efforts to stay in power following the 2020 election. if convicted of a serious crime, 84%, 84% of democrats as well as 63% of independents trump should not be allowed to serve as president again. 39% of republicans agree. while 43% say that a conviction should not be disqualifying. overall the poll shows trump s legal trouble has done more to help his standing with republicans than hurt it. 27% say it has given them a more positive view of the former president while 22% say it has made them feel more negatively about him. 43%, though, day it has not changed their opinion either way and could be a very different story in a general election next year. now, joining us now with a look at axios a.m. is eugene scott. good morning, tell us what is the axios 1 big thing today.
