In a case of gross negligence, at least 12 kids were administered hand sanitiser instead of the oral polio vaccine drops at a Primary Health Centre in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, officials said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday at Bhanbora PHC (Primary Health Centre) in Kapsikopri village, when over 2,000 small children aged 1-5 years had gathered along with their parents for the polio vaccination programme under the national immunization drive.

Taking cognisance of the incident, the district health authorities late on Monday suspended three
nurses after a preliminary investigation.
The incident took place on Sunday when over 2,000 small children aged 1-5 years had gathered along with their parents for the polio vaccination programme under the national immunization drive, launched in the morning.

MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, as many as 12 infants from the Yavatmal region in Maharashtra where given drops of hand sanitiser in place of polio drops.
According to reports, the incident took place at the Ghatanji Primary Health Centre in Yavatmal district during the pulse polio drive.
Meanwhile, all the affected kids are between the age groups of one and five and are currently undergoing treatment.
Notably, on January 31, the children in the gram panchayat area were administered polio dose as part of the national polio immunisation drive in which 12 kids were given drops of hand sanitiser in place of polio drops.
