jumping ship, i suppose. and finally the new york times reported that the clinton campaign is pursuing a southern strategy and looking to the south as a firewall to lock up the nomination in case she loses contests up there in iowa and new hampshire to sanders. in interviews advisers said the campaign pass increasingly devoting staff members and money to win the primary while laying the groundwork to sweep alabama, arkansas, georgia, oklahoma, tennessee, texas and virginia on march 1st. that s ambitious. they point to her popularity with black and hispanic voters down south as well as her policy stances and the relationship that she and bill clinton have cultivated. for weeks now, months, we ve watched bernie as number one opponent. he s got new hampshire pretty much in the bag for a while, he s threatening in iowa. a new national poll shows something s going on with biden. is he just picking up the loose pieces from clinton ship clinton?
about the authenticity of clinton s support for progressive policy stances will do us more harm than good. recent national polling shows clinton well ahead of sanders at this point, 63% to 14% across democrats across the country. the latest poll out of new hampshire in june shows sanders within striking distance of clinton in the key primary state and 35% to clinton s 43%. i m joined by barney frank. thank you for joining us. everybody wants to know what you think about this. you re a pretty well known liberal by the old terminology, the new terminology, progressive. now it s all the way to the left of liberal. what is the difference between a progressive and a socialist as you think it through, or is there still a distinction we can draw? there s a difference. socialism is a very respected intellectual view of the economy. i happen to disagree with it because i really do believe that the free market the capitalist
the problem is she is a terrible candidate. she is the lady who come up to you and says there s no eating in the library. so bernie sanders is a compelling guy. a funny he is a left wing ron paul. people like listening to him. they can see his passion is real and not manufactured and that s the real problem. she is a lousy candidate. because she s a phony. and bernie sanders, whatever you think of him, he s not a phony. that s not a come preliminary but it s true. bernie sanders is totally authentic. what he said about pushing her to the left. he absolutely has. once he started gaining even an ounce of traction. his first weekend where he had some traction. these are facts that hillary clinton has considered and has realigned her policy stances to come pete. so i think he has pushed her. great to see you.
