white house pointing to president obama who took what they say similar particulaactio. it slowed down at that point almost to a standstill while the obama administration implemented tougher vetting procedures, this after two iraqi refugees were discovered in kentucky, and apparently they d been involved in terrorist activity in iraq, including planting bombs to kill u.s. soldiers. so why is what the trump administration doing now any different than what the obama administration did in 2011? well, the manner in which it was developed and implemented, apparently without any consultation with the secretary of homeland security. no consultation with the secretary of defense. there didn t appear to be significant involvement from career officials at the state department or the department of justice. the policy put in place by the obama administration was done thoughtfully, deliberately, and it did not occur in the context, i would point out, wolf, of a
méxico city policy, who either perform abortion or provide information on the option and it was first instituted in 1984 by reagan. what does it mean potentially down the road, is defunding planned parenthood possibly next? it could be, heather. this specific executive order means very little for the average american, it s really an expression of president trump just saying that he is pro-life and he supports pro-life policies. as you mentioned, this is a policy put in place by ronald reagan but also kind of gotten back and forth between republican and democratic administrations over time. this is something that president george w. bush had in place but then president obama unwound. so president trump is bringing it back.
takes to put that to bed forever? i think as it relates to trade we need to evaluate the policy put in place make sure sure for folks where jobs have been lost ka get those jobs back. he talked about a lobbying ban. what we ve seen is conflict of interest emerge as relates to the trump foundation, charitable endeavors of his children as well as the continued entanglement of his business. he s going to talk the talk. the big question is whether he ll walk the walk. no question he promised to give a conference on december 15th talking about separating his business. he didn t do that. what efs getting at, there are areas, as a democratic member of congress, where you could see yourself agreeing with a president trump. there should be areas if he plans on following up on some of
morning dish of scrambled politics. jane timm is here, good morning. good morning. even for donald trump his attacks against the clnts have gotten a little bit more scathing. what s different about his latest tirades? they re not just personal he s really attacking her for her leadership in the middle east and wars and with some selective history he s blaming her yesterday for unseating saddam hussein which was a policy put in place long before clinton took that role as secretary of state. he s going after the fears that americans have, a war-weary country and saying, you know, this is her fault. let s blame her for this. if he can make it stick i think it could be potent. this what fueled his rise. going after fears indeed, and he s going to be doing that in a new ad. what exactly are we going to see here? these ads are very us versus them, playing into the deep, darkest fears. the most xenophobic feelings the country might have, saying this
you look at the bloomberg pole and they say don t accept the syrian refugees. this is a bipartisan concern and let s hope that the congress can work with the president and get us a reasoned rational sane policy put forward. the associated press reporting three people dead in mali sourcing a military official. there s reports hostages that could resite verses from the koran were allowed to go. still ahead, we re going to talk to senator john more of our exclusion i have interview ahead. you re watching morning joe.
