hat off and can do that and people shouldn t worry? an example, working for a company and decide to get a better offer at their competitor. your allegiance, loyalty, goes to your new assignment. people do it all the time. i have no doubt. again, his background, his experience. i think he brings a unique set of of experiences that very few secretary of states have ever brought. yeah, they may have had policy, policy experience in government, but he also brings that private sector, and it s a vast as well as just an accomplished individual. how many people do you know that rose from 1975 from being an engineer to the ceo, successful ceo of america s largest corporation? somebody that s got something on the ball. a long career certainly at exxon and did climb the ladder as you mentioned. senator johnson, appreciate you being with us. coming up, president-elect trump tweeted about these attacks, but how is he going to deal with global terrorism once he s in office?
what these appointments suggest he s going to do. and there s a lot of change that needs to happen. a lot of downsizing that needs to happen at these agency and he promised throughout the campaign to roll back regulations, so i think you re going to see some of that and these are the guys who have the guts to do it. you re talking about the reform. what jacobs is saying is dismantling undermining the department in the department. what s your view? never in history have you seen so many people being appointed to positions they have actively opposed and made a career out of it. what s very interesting to me is that donald trump ran on this wayent to drain the swamp and basically disable the financial elites and what we s doing is he s bringing in donors and millionaire and billionaire friends that don t have policy experience, victor. it s to the point he has to make the transition from running a disruptive campaign to getting people in the federal agencies that have policy experie
they signed a letter, we are not getting involved with trump and we don t like the way he s dealing with things. okay, maybe wanted a different opinion. you still need somebody that knows how to run the state department and the intelligence committee, how it works and understands the motivation of our enemies as well as our allies over seas and able to come up with a strategy and not reactant. particularly when the president of the united states, donald trump, has zero foreign policy experience and the people around him zero policy experience, some where, you need somebody with a steady hand and some sense. the other problem, however, is that i don t think donald trump recognizes that everything the president elect does is foreign policy. when he goes and sends a tweet in the middle of the night, the new york times is a lousy publication, the message goes out to around the world, it is
course of this campaign perhaps the thing i ve been most surprised about with donald trump is he really hasn t focused on acquiring any of this experience, any of the policy experience. he never he frankly didn t learn a whole lot over the course of this campaign. he was struggling to answer questions in the last few weeks on basic policy matters in the debates. that s because he ran he ran his whole campaign on emotion, right? it wasn t really about policy with him, it was all about emotion. he ran as a national candidate, too, didn t he? there was sort of a gutteral primal scream from trump. to ryan s point, you expected he would adopt some of the norms of our political expectations, sort of how we expect a candidate to behave. the debates showcase that more than any other moment where, you know, he sort of shrugged off any type of preparation. it did seem to show. and i think his supporters are certainly with him regardless but it didn t do much to win over sort of those und
