VIJAYAWADA: In a major development, Vijayawada Police on Thursday arrested a gang of five youth for committing robberies and murdering six elderly persons across Penamaluru and Kanchikacherla PS limits in Krishna district. Addressing media persons, Commissioner of Police B Sreenivasulu said the accused were identified as Velpuri Prabhakar Kumar (22), Sunkara Gopi Raju (22) of Poranki, Ponamala Chakravarthy alias Chakri (21), Moram Naga Durga Rao alias Chanti (21) of Tadigadapa and Maddhi Phanindra Kumar (20) of Kamayya Thopu.

The Andhra Pradesh Police came to the rescue of nearly 400 patients undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital here on Friday by ensuring that an oxygen tanker reached the hospital on time by creating a “green corridor”.
A Vijayawada-bound 18-tonne oxygen tanker went missing late in the night on Thursday. Nearly 400 patients presently being treated at the Government General Hospital were dependent on the tanker for their survival.

Public asked to celebrate new year at home
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and spread of a new strain of coronavirus, the city police prohibited New Year celebrations across the commissionerate limits during the intervening night of December 31 and January 1.
In a press release, Commissioner of Police B. Sreenivasulu said all establishments should be closed by 10 p.m. on December 31.
He appealed to the public to stay indoors and celebrate at home as all kinds of New Year celebrations including events at hotels, cake cutting on the roads, gathering of people on the road, bursting crackers and others were prohibited.
