It has witnessed nine fatal accidents and 25 non-fatal accidents in six years
Nine fatal accidents and 25 non-fatal accidents in six years have made Vaikkom Periyar Nagar – Madurai Ring Road junction a major black spot in the city. As part of making this junction safe for road users, the City Traffic Police have taken a series of measures.

R. Ashok More number of two-wheelers on roads and lack of a culture to follow road rules were causing more road accidents in India, said Commissioner of Police Prem Anand Sinha.
Speaking at the inaugural function of 32nd National Road Safety Month here on Monday, Mr. Sinha said that Tokyo had more pedestrians than two-wheelers and Australia had the culture of giving first right to the pedestrians crossing a road.

As per High Court guidelines, traffic police will not impose fine for these violations
Madurai City Traffic Police have warned share-auto drivers of stringent action for overloading and alteration of seats as per High Court direction.
At a meeting organised by the police to explain to owners and drivers of share-autos the guidelines issued by the High Court, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K. Sugumaran said the police would not impose fine on the vehicles for loading more than three passengers. Similarly, no fine would be imposed for altering the seat arrangement in the vehicles.
