Hertfordshire Police celebrated the work of its fantastic Police Support Volunteers (PSVs) during National Volunteers’ Week (June 1-7).
Volunteers’ Week is a time to say thanks for the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.
The force’s volunteers work across a variety of roles including:

- Assisting Safer Neighbourhood Teams with Neighbourhood Watch sign-ups
- Helping to review CCTV footage as part of investigations
- Acting as role play volunteers to help train new recruits
- Assisting various teams with admin tasks, to help free up officers’ time
Lord Ferrers Awards recognise outstanding contributions to volunteering in policing
The awards highlight the vital role volunteers play in policing through giving up their free time to make communities safer and enhancing the effectiveness of policing across England and Wales.

The awards were postponed last year due to COVID-19, therefore, this year’s ceremony will celebrate volunteers from both 2020 and 2021.
This year, we are including a new award for Volunteering in Partnership, to recognise those volunteers who have worked in partnership with others for the benefit of their communities.
Therefore, this year, the awards will recognise achievement across 11 individual and team categories:

North Wales Police’s special constabulary chief officer awarded MBE in the New Year’s Honours List

North Wales Police’s Special Constabulary Chief Officer has been awarded the honour of MBE in the New Year’s 2021 Honours List.
Mark Owen received the award for his services to Policing and to the community in the region, including during the Covid-19 response.
Mark, who is originally from Bangor but now lives near Denbigh, joined the force as constable in 1984 and has served across most of the force area within a wide range of roles and ranks.
