Prime minister Stephen Harper who was in the building at time has been safely escorted out of there . Shannon we had one guest a little earlier giving Us Geographic and physical mapping of that area saying that, there is a lot of water, of course surrounding this area with Parliament Hill. Essentially if you have seen the pictures, its a beautiful picturesque place where essentially sits on a cliff area. There are a number of bridges in that area you could go on foot to these areas. They are keeping an eye on anybody would want to make a quick getaway in or out of the city. You do have the river, number of ridges that create access coming in and leaving that area. Two people are dead tonight in ottawa, a canadian soldier and a suspect after a shooting on parliament hill, canadas equivalent of capitol hill. A violent morning that culminated in a shootout inside the ornate building where lawmakers were caucusing. As we get word that canadian officials knew that the gunman was high risk and took away his passport. Thats according to canadas ctv news. Officials tell us the gunman was a recent con extort islam and was the only shooter involved. He gunned down a canadaian soldier and opened fire in the canadian parliament. The canadian Prime Minister, called it the countrys second terror attack in the days. Today he shooters mother said she is crying for the victims but not shedding tears for her son he had a long rap sheet. The gunman spent a week and a half in a homeless shelter before the shootings happened. Witnesses are giving us a better idea how i went down. The shooter raised his arms in triumph after killing the soldier at the war memorial, and then went into parliament. Witnesses described scrambling down construction scaffolding to escape. O
