To honor those who have fallen, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department held a special service Friday.
During the service, a lone officer’s hat and a pair of boots lay next to the podium to symbolize all those that have fallen in the line of duty.
Crawford County Sheriff Shawn Kraycs spoke on how dangerous the job can be, and that every day, officers lay their lives on the line for the communities they are a part of.
He says that not everyone realizes the dangers of being a police officer.
“Police officers don’t come to working saying ‘I’m going to go out and shoot somebody tonight’,” said Kraycs. “They come to work saying, ‘I’m going to do the best I can do to protect and serve the people of my community.’ And sometimes they get hurt. Sometimes they die doing that, and we have to show them, like we do soldiers, that we respect the sacrifice that they made.”
At their most recent meeting held Monday evening, a zoning public hearing was heard by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners and the Lincoln County Planning Board on a request to rezone 11 acres of land located on Ranger Island Road, Mozelle Sherrill Drive and Ranger Island Mariner Road in Denver (Catawba Springs Township). The applicant, Ranger Island Marina Associates has requested this rezoning to permit 27 attached single-family dwelling units, either townhomes or condominiums as well as three lots for single-family detached homes to be located on whatâs known as Ranger Island which is connected to the rest of the subject property by a narrow strip of land. The property is currently zoned single-family residential. The applicant is requesting that it be changed to planned development residential.
