Police in Srinagar, in their zeal to impose corona curfew ahead of Eid, were seen beating women with sticks for violating restriction orders on Wednesday, prompting sharp reactions. They also forced shops selling meat and vegetables to down shutters.
The policemen were carrying hockey sticks to impose the curfew. In many areas, including Batmaloo, a police vehicle was seen chasing youths. At many places, police toppled vendor carts.
SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar have lodged a case against a ‘major’ departmental store in City suburbs for allegedly flouting prevailing ‘Corona Curfew’ restrictions.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Srinagar Police wrote “An FIR has been registered against a major departmental store in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar for breaking the law by operating through back door.”
“One man’s greed can’t be allowed to put lives of others at risk. #covid19”, it remarked.
Pertinent to mention here that authorities on Tuesday last as part of its COVID containment measures extended lockdown in Srinagar city along with four other districts.

Srinagar, Feb 25: Police in Srinagar today said to have solved a theft case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of the crime and recovered stolen property.
The police said that on February 24 the Police Station received a written complaint from Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat resident of Firdousabad Batmaloo wherein he stated that a large number of tyres are missing from his warehouse located at Diyarwani Batmaloo.
“The complainant suspected one of his salesman involved in the crime,” police said.
The envoys, including from member states of the European Union (EU), Brazil, Malaysia, were also briefed about the role of the Pakistani army in helping terrorists infiltrate into India.

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], February 18 (ANI): A group of 24 foreign envoys, who are on a two-day visit to the Union Territory, will visit Jammu on the second day of their tour on Thursday.
The Delegation of diplomats from foreign missions, including the European Union will be briefed by Army and Police in Srinagar today, after which the group of envoys will call on the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, in Jammu.
