The Imo state police command yesterday confirmed that hoodlums in military uniform killed one of its officers, Sergent Loveday Obilonu, at Ukwu Uratta road in Owerri, Imo state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, stated this to newsmen in Owerri, through the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bala Elkana.
Abutu said that Sergent Loveday was among the officers deployed to protect the citizens of the state against criminal elements. In their preliminary investigation, he added that the officer was killed by the hoodlums after they (hoodlums) had identified him as a police officer and was armed with his gun.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwo, to newsmen in Owerri, that Osundu, claimed to be a police spy trained in Lagos. The police said among other things that some of the exhibits recovered from the suspect included one English made Pump action rifle and twenty-six (26) live cartridges, a pair of Police uniform with the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Governor of Imo State, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma on Thursday hosted the Muslim community in the state to a banquet in the spirit of Eid-el-fitr celebration.
The banquet brought Muslim brothers and sisters in Imo State as well as their Christian counterparts together in a joyous mood as it provided them the opportunity to interact and share ideas.

Ikeokwu said the cleric was kidnapped when his car developed a fault at Ihube in Okigwe LGA.

The Imo State Police command has linked the kidnap of a Catholic priest, Izu Marcel Onyeocha, to a group of suspected herdsmen.
In a statement, the command s spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu, said one Bissong Isa Atugu, who was in the car with the cleric when he was kidnapped, narrated that a group of people believed to be herdsmen emerged from the bush and inflicted matchete cuts on him while the priest was kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.
