GUWAHATI: Police launched a crackdown at the residence of BPF candidate for Kokrajhar East constituency Pramila Rani Brahma on Sunday night to probe allegations of cash distribution after the end of campaigning for the third phase of elections.
Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan on Monday told the media that police raided her residence after “receiving” information that a big crowd had gathered at her residence, violating the model code of conduct (MCC), where cash was allegedly distributed.
“About 1,000 people were gathered at her residence. We asked the crowd to disperse as Section 144 CrPC was in force in the district. There was no cooperation from the side of BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma and her party people during our raid. They have misbehaved with us including one more IPS official. One PSO of the candidate and another person have been picked up for trying to prevent the police from discharging duty. We are going to take lawful action,” the SP sa
