The drug disposal committee of the Ludhiana police on Thursday destroyed huge quantity of drugs recovered by the police from smugglers in different cases.
The special campaign launched by the crime wing of the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate against snatchers has led to the arrest of 39 miscreants in a week.
The Ludhiana police claimed to have nabbed two smugglers and seized 265 gm of heroin from their possession. The smugglers were on the way to deliver the consignment to their clients. The value of the contraband was said to be over Rs 1 crore.
The city police yesterday arrested a smuggler and recovered 120 gm of heroin, the market value of which is in lakhs in the international market. The suspect, who had a notorious past, had allegedly developed links with big smugglers of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
The police nabbed four drug smugglers in separate cases and seized 325 kg of poppy husk from them. Two trucks, which were used for smuggling purpose, were also impounded by the police.
