Palmyra, MO (WGEM) It s shaping up to be one of deadliest years on record on Missouri roadways.
In northeast Missouri, 23 people died on the road at this time last year. That number is already at 32 for 2021.
Palmyra police say they have already given out 163 citations for people going 15 to 19 miles over the speed limit.
They have given 98 citations to those going at least 20 miles over.
Palmyra Police Chief Eddie Bogue says another reason for fatalities is due to drivers not wearing seatbelts. A lot of people in rural areas tend not to wear a seatbelt, said Bogue. 81 percent of the fatalities we ve had so far this year were not wearing a seatbelt.
