How a new virtual reality system can help train Sacramento police for real-life encounters

May 8 Two Virginia police officers in December pulled over a Black and Latino U.S. Army officer for a missing license plate before they pointed guns at 2nd Lt. Caron Nazario, pepper sprayed him and pushed him to the ground, according to videos of the incident.
A week later, Lt. Zachary Bales and his training division team at the Sacramento Police Department were analyzing the video of that controversial police encounter to learn how to teach officers and new recruits what not to do.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Sacramento Police say an officer is looking at felony charges for allegedly filing a false police report.
Alexa Palubicki, 26, was arrested and placed on administrative leave as soon as the department learned of her alleged misconduct, officials said.
According to investigators, Palubicki’s fellow officers first brought the information to the attention of the department in July 2020.
“Once the Sacramento Police Department was alerted to the dishonesty, the department launched a thorough audit of all arrests and associated supplemental reports submitted by Palubicki over the course of her three-year employment,” the police department wrote in a press r

Sacramento Police officers train for stressful situations using virtual reality

SACRAMENTO, Calif. In an effort to help better equip officers on the job, the Sacramento Police Department has begun using virtual reality to train officers.
“[It] helps inoculate stress and slow down the situation for officers,” Lt. Zach Bales said.
That’s what Sacramento officers will experience when they put on a headset and censored wristbands that take them to virtual reality training.
