country as police investigate what may have motivated these murders. anti-asian attacks and hate crimes have been rising sharply since the pandemic hit. let s get the latest from ryan young live this morning in atlanta. good morning. good morning. eight people killed. that s a number that so many people are astonished by. we know police were able to use surveillance video which tied all these scenes together. it s an investigation that still is ongoing. a shooting rampage at three spas in the atlanta metro area tuesday leaving eight people dead and one wounded. police apprehending one suspect. 21-year-old robert aaron long of woodstock, georgia. video evidence suggests it s extremely likely the same person is responsible for all three shootings. georgia state patrol troopers performed a pit maneuver which caused the vehicle to spin out of control. he was taken into custody without incident. reporter: the first shooting took place outside of atlanta at young s asian mass
reporter: yeah, good morning, ana. we know this was a very chaotic scene. police apprehending that suspect and then a secondary suspect, one who picked up a gun at the scene and began returning fire at the first shooter on the scene. the scene is massive. police are out there today look for more video, hoping to talk to witnesses. as you mentioned, five dead, that fifth victim discovered in a home this morning. authorities say they do believe he is connected to the mass shooting. this morning, yet another community in america reeling from a mass shooting. after a gunman opened fire in philadelphia, shooting seven people, killing five, and injuring two children. all right, all units use caution. reporter: police say the suspect was armed with an ar-15 style rifle and handgun, carrying a police scanner and wearing a bulletproof vest.
happened and what do we know about the suspected gunman? reporter: good morning. frankly, the scene was all-out chaos. it spanned several blocks. police apprehending a 40-year-old man carrying an ar-style rifle, a handgun and a scanner. police say he surrendered and they were able to take him into custody. as that was happening, police also apprehended a second suspect who was apparently returning fire at the suspect who initially opened fire in this southwest philadelphia neighborhood. now, a number of shell casings were recovered at the scene. police will be back at the scene to look for video, talk to witnesses, get any information they can. we know two young victims were wounded in this shooting.
