Amaravati: As part of the partial curfew and Section 144 imposed in Andhra Pradesh, the Srikakulam district police on Wednesday (May 5) held a COVID-19 awareness rally with 10 vehicles in all major junctions of the town.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra supervised the rally while SP Amit Bardar monitored the rally through drone cameras. The public should be careful of corona infection. People must wear masks at all times and must maintain social distance. Shopping is allowed from 6 am to 12 noon only, Bardar told the media.
In the Prakasam district`s Addanki town, the police made public announcements through mics urging people not to come out unless there is an emergency.

More than 2,100 people test positive in Prakasam and Nellore districts in a day
Relief for people from coronavirus seems to be far from the sight in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh as eight more patients succumbed to the virus and more than 2,100 people tested positive in 24 hours.
The active cases rose to 13,946 as 1,592 persons in Nellore district and another 522 persons in Prakasam district contracted the infection in 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. on Monday, according to a health bulletin released by the State government.
With six deaths in Nellore district and two in Prakasam district, the toll in the region rose to 1,197. So far 612 patients in Prakasam and 585 others in Nellore have succumbed to the virus.

There is no shortage of oxygen supply to treat critical COVID patients in Prakasam district, according to Collector Pola Bhaskar.
“We have 14 kl oxygen stock to treat patients at the Government General Hospital here and other Vidyavidhan Parishad hospitals in the district now,” he said. Initially the district administration, which had been getting oxygen replenishment from Chennai, faced problems. Now arrangement had been made with RINL, Visakhapatnam, to augment oxygen availability, he explained.
“We have taken all steps to avoid wastage and use the available oxygen judiciously to needy patients,” he added and anticipated that the number of cases might go up further in the coming weeks requiring more number of oxygenated beds in hosptials treating COVID-19 patients.

People came in large numbers right from the early hours to decide the electoral fortunes of the contestants for 208 sarpanch and 1,468 ward member seats during the second phase of panchayat elections held in 14 mandals in Prakasam district on Saturday.
District Collector Pola Bhaskar, who oversaw the polling process, said 86.60% of the 4.12 lakh voters, including 2.05 lakh women, voted in the elections when the polling process concluded at 3.30 p.m. As many as 555 aspirants were in the fray for sarpanch seats and 3,101 candidates for ward member seats.
