The cabinet has approved a royal decree to hold a by-election in Constituency 9 in Bangkok which is expected to be held on Jan 30, according to Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha denied an allegation made during a no-confidence debate that he had received benefits related to illegal gambling dens.
The issue was raised by Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, leader of the opposition Seri Ruam Thai Party, at the start of the four-day debate on Tuesday.
Gen Prayut rebutted the claim, saying the information was taken from the media and solid evidence and witnesses were still required to back the claim.

8 Opposition MPs believe Palang Pracharath MP Sira Jenjaka should be disqualified based on Section 98 (10) of the constitution.
The Constitutional Court has accepted a fresh petition from the opposition Seri Ruam Thai Party seeking a ruling on the status of Palang Pracharath Party MP Sira Jenjaka.
Seri Ruam Thai leader, Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, said on Friday parliament president Chuan Leekpai had informed him in writing on Thursday that he had forwarded the petition to the court.
The petition also asked the court to order the Bangkok MP to be suspended from legislative duties pending the court s ruling.
