probably a point where democrats are going p to say, okay, let so on with this vote. one of the most striking things i saw was republicans are trying to blame people with president a trump, they turned on the european ambassador gordon sondland saying he was an intelligence risk, no one understood why he was involved in ukraine janish use. steve castor said there s evidence that rudy giuliani wasn t acting at the direction of the president.at of course, democrats and these witnesses themselves, rudy giuliani said i was acting and am working very close with president trump. gordonp. sondland testified ver clearly, i thought the president was asking for a quid pro quo. the attorney for gordon sondland said his testimony speaks for itself. his testimony is he was doing all of this because he was having multiple phone calls with the president and the president made clear what he wanted. i wantle to get to barbara mcquade on this question of law and prosecution and what a trial looks like
move to totalitarianism. house press secretary stephanie grisham claims it will save taxpayers money. they don t even bother trying to print facts. half the time if you look in their correction sections, takes up half a page. we have tried to work with those outlets. we really have. there was a point when i had gone through point by point with people to say even on the record, this is wrong, this is wrong. this is wrong. it s going to save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. it wouldn t surprise me if it goes into the millions. harris: bringing in fox news media analyst and a host of media buzz, howie kurtz. washington post gives free subscriptions to federal government employees. those who have.gov, edu in their emails. our brain room couldn t find evidence of that for the new york times although it gives a 50% discount to military and military veterans. just to play with the numbers a little bit so people know.
the president said he had respect for the new york times because they published a story about adam schiff and the whistle-blower that he liked. nevertheless, as long as the journalist have access, i don t care if they have subscriptions. harris: is it a winning thing, blaming the media? does it work for people? i ve seen both political parties do this at some point. i think the president has so relentlessly and constantly blamed the media. when he goes into the enemy of the people or potentially treasonous rhetoric, he s playing to his base who hates the media. no one likes us very much these days, harris. i wonder if there s a point of diminishing returns because he doesn t so often, just about every day. harris: again, i mean, this is something where we see both sides of the political aisle blaming us. but i like you, howie kurtz. it s a symbolic slap. it s not totalitarianism. it s not about saving money. it s about president trump doesn t like the way these papers cover him as he makes clear all the time. this is not unprecedented. jack kennedy canceled all white house subscriptions to the new york herald tribune more than half a century ago. to do it extended to all government agencies is heavy. harris: you say there is a point to what he s doing it. a few weeks ago we were talking about two new york times writers who came out with the book. there was an incendiary tweet from one of them having to do with justice kavanaugh. at least a couple pertinent details were left out of there op-ed in the new york times about whether or not the victim even remembered something that they were alleging happened. there were some problems with details. people might look at this and say they could understand why the president wouldn t be happy maybe with some of these. the coverage has been overwhelmingly negative
