CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. A contractor hired by Chesterfield County to build a multi-million dollar firehouse is investigating why the roof unexpectedly collapsed.
Chesterfield Fire and EMS Lt. Kenny Mitchell said the intricate metal roofing frame fell at the construction site at Charter Colony Parkway and Midlothian Turnpike at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Oyster Point Construction Company based in Newport News is currently investigating why the roofing material fell.

A security guard, Mallam Babangida, on Sunday lost his life after he fell from a bridge into a river in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The man was said to be working with one of the construction companies in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Babawale Afolabi, said the incident happened around 6am on Sunday.
Afolabi said his corpse was later retrieved after it was swept to the river bank.
He said, “Mallam Babangida of Tunga Rijawa village fell from the Moshe Bridge into the river and died. The incident happened at the early hours of Sunday.

A security guard, Babangida of Tunga Rijawa in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Sunday fell into Moshe Gada bridge and died.
A statement by the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said Babangida was a security guard with Turning Point Construction Company.
The incident happened after Babangida closed from work at about 600hours in the morning on Sunday.
DAILY POST gathered that the accident occurred as the guard was trying to cross the bridge with a ladder.
” As a result of the heavy rainfall, the wave pushed the ladder he used away and he fell into the river.
Afolabi said the man’s corpse was retrieved after it was swept to a river bank.
According to him, “Mallam Babangida of Tunga Rijawa village fell into the Moshe river and died. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.
“The deceased was a security guard at Turning Point Construction Company, and while he was going home after closing from work, as he was trying to cross the bridge, he fell into the river and died.
“His body was later found beside by the river bank.”
Afolabi, therefore, advised residents to be very careful and watchful, especially during downpours, to guide against suchs incident.
