Either way, Valentine’s Day is good time to shake things up with a distractingly delicious and/or decadent meal. Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday, February 14 of President’s Day weekend this year meaning a lot of restaurants are offering special menus for more than one brunch or dinner. As is often the case these days, offerings vary widely by business. Some restaurants are only doing takeout, while others also have indoor or heated outdoor dining. Some are only serving prix-fixe, but some are doing a la carte menus plus some V-Day specials. If you see something you like, don’t hesitate to reach out to the restaurant directly for options.

Some, you become so close to that it feels like family. Thus, during this year of so many sad closures, everyone’s list of the places they miss the most will be different. Here’s mine. Breadline The Washingtonian offices were about a ten minute walk to this bakery/sandwich/salad spot, which was founded by Mark Furstenberg in 1997. The bread master sold it long ago, but the blueprint remained and it was always jam-packed. And there was something so uplifting about getting a freshly fried fish sandwich or a prosciutto flatbread for a desk lunch, instead of a boring Cobb. Not surprisingly, as downtown has cleared out, it’s closed for “the foreseeable future.”
