Cambodia has declared Kep the first mine-free province, with the capital and six other provinces – Prey Veng, Kandal, Kampong Cham, Preah Sihanouk, Ratanakkiri and Takeo – soon to follow. Ly Thuch, first vice-president of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, presided over the ceremonial declaration on February 28 at the Kep Provincial Hall.
The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) said eight minefields in Kep will be cleared in mid-February as it is slated to become the country's first mine-free province.
