KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged as a surprise victor of the by-election in Karachi’s NA-249 constituency, defeating the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by fewer than 700 votes, according to unofficial and provisional results.
According to Geo News, PPP’s Abdul Qadir Mandokhel bagged 16,156 votes to win the seat, followed by PML-N’s Miftah Ismail who secured 15,473. Nazir Ahmed of the outlawed TLP trailed third by receiving 11,125 votes. PSP’s Mustafa Kamal acquired 9,227 votes, followed by PTI’s Amjad Afridi with 8,922 votes and MQM-P’s Muhammed Mursaleen with 7,511 votes.
The PPP and PML-N had both claimed victory for their candidates midway into the count on Thursday, and after the PPP edged ahead, the PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz said the results of the “stolen” election would be challenged.

The PTI and the PML-N on Friday rejected the results of the by-election in Karachi as PPP’s Qadir Khan Mandokhail emerged victorious in NA-249 after securing 16,156 votes.
PML-N’s Miftah Ismail came in second with 15,473 votes, followed by the candidate from the recently banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Mufti Nazeer Ahmed Kamalvi, who secured 11,125 votes, unofficial results showed. Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal was at fourth place with 9,227 votes, followed by PTI’s Amjad Afridi with 8,922 votes.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accepted the plea of PML-N’s Miftah Ismail asking for a vote recount in the NA-249 by-election in Karachi. In light of this development, ECP has also ordered to withhold the final results of the by-election.
The Election Commission will hear the petition by the PML-N leader on May 4. In this regard, notices have been issued to all the candidates by ECP.
Earlier, the PML-N leadership had demanded a recount of votes cast in the NA-249 Karachi by-election. Miftah Ismail had penned a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, stating that the results from more than 30 polling stations have not been received. He also expressed serious reservations regarding the attitude of some presiding officers.
