Staying the conviction would result in restoration of the Lok Sabha membership of Faizal who stood disqualified from Parliament after the high court order. The top court has sought response of the Lakshadweep administration and complainants in the case on the appeal filed by Faizal.
Faizal said it was a politically motivated case and he would file an appeal in the higher court soon. According to the lawyers, the MP and others attacked Padanath Salih, son-in-law of former Union Minister P M Sayeed.
The Kavaratti District and Session Court on Wednesday sentenced Lakshadweep Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammed Faizal and four others to 10 years imprisonment in an attempt to murder case.
