Businesses along Auckland's Great North Road say roadworks are turning customers away during their crucial pre-Christmas period. The roadworks began last month as part of Auckland Transport's Great North Road project delivering walking, cycling and bus improvements over the next two years. And as Louise Ternouth reports some businesses are so sick of waiting for customers to walk through the door, they've decided to take their business on the road.

Emergency services were called to Plunket Ave in Saint Leonards at about 10.40am today.
A police spokesperson said inquiries were under way to establish the circumstances of the death. The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be undertaken.

Residents who live by an empty industrial yard in Hastings heard nothing before police were called to a death nearby this morning.

Officers were called to reports of the sudden death on Plunket Ave about 10.40am.
This afternoon, detectives put up tents in the yard and were investigating the scene.
The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will be completed.
Residents told RNZ the lot had been vacant for several years and was frequented by homeless people on occasion.
