A plethora of questions, a blast of answers
University officials discuss rooks, food and more in Feb. 5 town hall
Fast-evolving pandemic protocols have raised a plethora of student questions. Last week, university officials worked to answer them.
In a student town hall on Friday, President Mark Anarumo, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and Technology Frank Vanecek, Corps of Cadets Commandant Col. Michael Titus and Amelia “Millie” Heidenreich, general manager of food contractor Sodexo at Norwich University, answered wide-ranging queries at a virtual town hall.
On Saturday, Titus and student Regimental Commander Caleb Miller posted a second video to explain recognition for rooks, first-year recruits for the Corps.
Weekend activities open to let students stay fit, enjoy outdoors
Coronavirus protocols will govern activities
The spike in COVID-19 positive cases forced a return to the modified campus quarantine, but several campus locales will offer student activities over the weekend.
“The administration, staff and faculty greatly appreciate your patience as we negotiate this high-risk time. … We recognize and applaud your sacrifice,” Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and Technology Frank Vanecek said in a memo to residential students issued late Friday afternoon. “We are working very hard to find ways to provide you with programming, especially exercise and outdoor activities, while prioritizing public health and safety, to prevent further spread of the virus.”
In service, satisfaction
Virtual ‘Legacy of Learning’ session will address everyday altruism
As a Guiding Value, “service before self” shapes the Norwich University’s community’s behavior and attitudes. During the coronavirus pandemic, marked by distancing and remoteness, service may sometimes amount to simple kindness.
At 12:30 p.m. Friday, the Center for Civic Engagement will lead a virtual “Legacy of Learning” session on service “Service-Living: How to Integrate Service into Your Everyday Life for a Positive Impact.”
In the session, Center for Civic Engagement Director Nicole DiDomenico M’15 and Assistant Director Abigail Joyal ’19 will join moderator Jenny Goudreau ’90, a professional educator and leadership coach, to explore volunteerism virtual or distanced and its benefit to mental and physical health.
With masks and moxie, Norwich greets spring semester students
New electronic scheduling system, staff efforts smooth COVID-19 testing and arrivals, officials say
By the time students began arriving on Norwich University’s Northfield, Vermont, campus Friday for the Spring 2021 semester, teams of Norwich faculty and staff were ready. Electronic message boards in campus buildings were loaded with greetings, COVID-19 tests were waiting at Plumley Armory and Facilities Operations staff members stood ready to move snow and ease movement.
As in the fall, university departments across campus the School of Nursing, the Center for Civic Engagement, Facilities Operations, athletic coaches, faculty and staff had followed President Mark C. Anarumo’s “Norwich Together” motto to prepare. In his electronic message board statement to students, College of National Services Dean Matthew Smith told students, “Take care of your wingman/battle buddy and let’s get after it!”
