Four fire crews, the first concern was the intensity of the fire burning cars and other vehicles in the backyard of this property. And unfortunately burning cars mean Petroleum Products and chemicals a toxic mix. The safety of residents next door was the second concern. Neighbors went door to take are door to make sure people were not home. One of the neighbors tells us the owner of the property that went up in flames is out of the country. It happened all in a matter of maybe 15 minutes, the explosion. It started out with some smoke. Then a first explosion. And then flames into the trees ob onto to the house and started shooting embers into the house next door. Reporter when we arrived we could hear some popping of what firefighters say may have been propane tanks. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to one single property. But embers did reach nearby homes and flames damaged fences at adjac

Well. As you mentioned, a lot of cars and trailers and rvs, a bunch of sheds and things like that. Its easy to see how i fire of this nature could spread very quickly. The smoke went up about 1000 feet in the air and then tapered off into south san jose. The plumes could be seen from all over san jose. We started hearing the sirens, and we were praying and when we came out of prayers, there was smoke all around. It looked like a junkyard. A lot of the firefighters jumping in and helping out. We were using our small hoses to wet the area. We saw that the fire was taking over the trees. We saw the black smoke we saw some fire, we got a little worried. Reporter once again, this fire is burning on a large property on Pleasant Acres road near klein and tully rhodes in the Eastwood Hills of san jose. It is in a fairly remote part of the san jose foothills, so there isnt a large traffic problem in this area. Neighbors were certainly concerned and people were hosing off the property in anticip
The injured were loaded the in the ambulance. Two people have been detained and those people are in ks di. And police have not said if a weapon was found or rekoved but they say this is sti active investigation. We talked with one man who heard the gunshots from his apartment right here on the corner. It was pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, at least seven or eight shots, at least, in a fivesecond period. I hear it was a drive by, but i didnt hear any cars driving away. Just nothing afterwards. My granddaughter was in the room with me and she didnt even look up. Well be looking at whether or not theres any gang connection. There certainly have been shootings on this block before. From what we understand, some of the vehicles had magnesium blocked engines, which if you dont know when you apply water to those fires it increases the intensity, because the mangangnm itself burn. That was the problem initially but it sounds like theyre getting a handle. Is this an official junkyard or someones property who has a lot of cars on it . M
