For Margaret âMidgeâ Purce 17, scoring 42 goals in her four seasons with the Harvard women s soccer program was not enough. As she competes in her fifth professional soccer season, fulfills her first term on the Harvard Board of Overseers, and prepares for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as a member of the United States Women s National Team, Purce continues to set and achieve new goals on and off the field.
Even before enrolling at Harvard as a first-year in 2013, Purce prioritized both academic and athletic opportunities in her recruiting process. In high school, she starred as a member of the U.S. Soccer Under-17 Women s National Team and won Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year in her home state of Maryland. While her incredible speed and quickness on the pitch opened the door for a chance to play at perennial contenders for the NCAA national championship, Purce s passion for academics led her to choose the Crimson for her collegiate career.

Happy Wednesday everyone. First things first, big ups to the homie Ryan for holding me down on the Freedom Kicks last week while I was unplugging for the most part on a much needed vacation. I owe him a lobster roll. Tuesday was almost as busy as Monday was, so I feel Jason’s pain. Here’s some of the news that dropped yesterday.
It’s not a drill. D.C. United and the Washington Spirit are both considering cherry blossom jerseys. United would consider them for the 2023 season, but of course it feels like they’re already trying to temper expectations. The Washington Spirit could do one as early as next season, and Jason has a juicy nugget on that!

The National Women’s Soccer League has opened an investigation into claims that Red Stars defender Sarah Gorden and her boyfriend were racially profiled after the opening match of the Challenge Cup tournament, the league told the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday.
In a Twitter thread published Saturday morning, Gorden said she and her boyfriend, who are Black, were harassed by a security guard at BBVA Stadium in Houston when her boyfriend tried to speak with her near the field after the Red Stars’ scoreless draw against the Houston Dash.
Gorden also said security threatened to arrest her boyfriend if he came closer to the pitch.
