that everybody, teenagers everywhere should be aware of what s happening in the world and care about things that are happening beyond our own borders, and i think this was a plea saying basically we re all in this together. what can we do? how can we help each other and the least we can do in the u.s., let s say, is to make sure all of us there and especially their peers and teenagers who own the future are able to at least sympathize and empathize with their counterparts on other places. one of the things i was thinking about is maybe we can have a program of having schools in the u.s. connected with, say, schools in poland where refugees are, but there are a lot of things that could be done. we re looking now at a huge reception center where a couple of thousand people can stay and we just saw some images of the children s play room there and people in poland are doing an
uncles and wives not with husbands. it makes it even more difficult that the children are asking where their fathers are. they have to sleep alone and make a plan alone. i want to show you around the train station. it s a half way point, a hub for families. fleeing ukraine. but their journey here is not over. this little one is sleeping it out in his stroller. his mom figures out what s next. she has a warm soup from the volunteers outside. that s a lot of what s provided here. a little bit of help. there s a play room for the children. if moms need a group they can leave the children and give themselves an opportunity to work the phones. figure out where to sleep tonight. everyone has bags with them. they brought their dogs and pets with them. that s what people are carrying. most precious possessions and figure out where will they spend the next few days. many of the families are essentially no maddic.
get help if that s what you need. there s even a play room just over there for children so that they can pass the time while their parents try to figure out what s next. you re going to see everywhere volunteers here and they re answering questions as much as they can, providing information when they can. the first question they get is where am i going to sleep tonight. salma abdelaziz from the border with ukraine and poland. thank you so much. joining us now, retired army major mike lions. thank you so much, major, for being with us. we certainly appreciate your insight on all of this. first and foremost, we know and we see that the fighting isn t over but that it has shifted in some respects. so what is your assessment of that shift, and what does it tell us, do you think, about the russian capabilities or potential next moves? well, first, russia needs a victory.
lynda. this is the play room for the kids. this is a big relief for these children who are fleeing violence, trying to find a moment of calm, trying to find a moment of peace, and here they get that. they get that refuge. one of that group of friends is organizers. start by telling me how many families you re taking care here and what their needs have been so far. so all together, we ve got more than 500 people right now. this place, it s probably around 200 because we need to renovate it. and so we try to deliver not only shelter, not only food, hot meals, but also private health care, find the jobs, legal job for ladies who are staying with us. and tell me some of the stories, the situations that people are coming across with. they fled from a very difficult place? absolutely. tell me some of the things that you re seeing these survivors tell you. yes. so they are plenty of stories,
to take it from the local government and authorities and in three days they ran power, they ran water, they built beds. they made sure it s a place where doctors can come, families can make food. i m going to show you my favorite room here. the kids play room. yes, it was an old, abandoned building. there s fresh paint because volunteers were sure to paint there are deer, bumble bees. i want to introduce you to one of the volunteers and organizers here. just tell us about how you were able to pull this together. if you know there are women and children in the snow freezing, many staying on the border, so we have that task. we call everybody who we know, come on, can you come help? so it is what we are doing here. reporter: tell me about the
