There has been another death on the trials at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. National Park Service officials say they received a report at around 9:47 a.m. Monday of a hiker with a medical emergency on the Bright Angel Trail. The caller said the hiker didn’t have a pulse. Bystanders started CPR and search and rescue personnel responded and assisted with resuscitation efforts. The 56-year-old hiker was pronounced dead at the scene. He was returning from a day trip to Plateau Point, when he became unresponsive near Mile-And-Half Resthouse. An investigation into the incident is under way by NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. Remember: before you hike the Canyon, make sure you are prepared for the heat.
