CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - The Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Luzon (DPWH-3) said on Friday it will implement a total of 2,214 infrastructure projects this year. DPWH-3 Regional Director Roseller A. Tolentino said some PHP70.77 billion was allocated for the implementation of various projects in the region under Republic Act (RA) No. 11639, the "General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2022". The Japanese government has welcomed the opening of the Arterial Road Bypass Project (ARBP) or Plaridel Bypass Project Phase III in Bulacan that is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and boost economic activities in the region amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic.

Funded by the Overseas Development Assistance under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Y9.399 billion project is the third phase of a road project bypassing the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway that also covered the construction of two additional lanes of the Angat Bridge and widening of underpass, drainage, and other related works.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar bared the completion of the widening works of the 1.22-kilometer (km) bridge, which at present is one of the longest bridges in the Philippines.
The bridge now has a total of four lanes–two lanes for each direction, Villar said. It used to have only two lanes, one for each direction.
The bridge is a part of the Plaridel Bypass Road, which serves as an alternate route for motorists going to Maharlika Highway.
The widening project is covered by contract package (CP) 3 of the Arterial Road Bypass Project (ARBP) Phase 3, which has a total funding of ₱1.092 billion. It was financed through a loan agreement between the Philippines and the Government of Japan (GOJ) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
