MISHAWAKA â The vacant St. Joseph Hospital building in downtown Mishawaka could soon see life again, this time as a 35-bed residential treatment center for people with drug and alcohol addictions.
Indiana Center for Recovery, a for-profit company that operates a treatment center in Bloomington, plans to begin renovations soon and open the Fourth Street building for business later this spring.
The 182,000-square-foot building, one of the cityâs largest, has been vacant since 2018, when Kindred Hospital closed its 60-bed transitional-care facility at the site. The owners of Indiana Center for Recovery bought the building in late 2019. Records show the company paid $440,000 for the property.
