A lawyer and climate campaigner who revealed the Supreme Court’s decision on Heathrow’s third runway a day before it was made public has been fined £5,000 for contempt of court.
Tim Crosland, director of environmental campaigning organisation Plan B Earth, avoided jail for breaking an embargo on the court’s judgment allowing Heathrow’s appeal over controversial expansion plans in December.
Mr Crosland, who previously worked for the Serious Organised Crime Agency, described breaking the embargo as “an act of civil disobedience”, adding: “I have no choice but to protest the deep immorality of the court’s ruling.”

A lawyer and climate campaigner has accused the Supreme Court of continuing a “systemic campaign of suppression” of the environmental impact of Heathrow’s expansion, after he was fined £5,000 for contempt of court.
Tim Crosland, director of environmental campaign group Plan B Earth, was found in contempt for revealing the Supreme Court’s decision on Heathrow’s third runway a day before it was made public in December.
The 51-year-old lawyer, from Elephant and Castle in south London, previously described breaking the embargo as “an act of civil disobedience”, saying: “I have no choice but to protest the deep immorality of the court’s ruling.”

Tim Crosland has been found in contempt of court for deliberately leaking a Supreme Court judgment following an application made by the Attorney General, Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP.
Mr Crosland, an environmental lawyer and a director of the climate change charity Plan B Earth, represented the charity in a case heard at the Supreme Court in October 2020 concerning the expansion of Heathrow Airport.
