The Board of Regents today named William Harris Green, Jr., a chemistry teacher at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School in Manhattan, as the 2023 New York State Teacher of the Year. Also, during today’s meeting, the Board honored two teachers and a Holocaust Museum curator with Yavner Awards and awarded the 2022 Marge A. Tierney Memorial Scholarship to a graduate student.

It’s a February afternoon. We’re in a Brooklyn classroom. Sixteen-year-old Taylor Engler comes face to face with a cow. But it was all in her head.
She was taken there by a virtual reality headset. It took the Berkeley Carroll School junior and eight classmates to an upstate New York farm. The farm was 250 miles away. The technology means field trips are no longer limited by the length of a bus ride. I was not expecting it to be right in my face! That s what Taylor said after peeling off the purple headset and finding herself back inside her city classroom.

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District has partnered with Advanced Cardiovascular Diagnostics to provide free COVID-19 rapid antigen testing to all members of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District community. Testing takes place at the Jamaica Avenue School at 85 Jamaica Avenue, Plainview, NY. Last week, senior citizens from the community had their own designated testing time to provide them with a safe, uncrowded environment to get tested.
