The West Plains School District Board of Education has selected WPHS senior Drew Harris as the District nominee for the John T. Belcher Scholarship. The Missouri School Board Association (MSBA) and Future Builders established the statewide scholarship program in memory of Mr. Belcher, who was instrumental in developing innovative financing programs for Missouri school districts. "The learning environment for thousands of Missouri's public school students was improved as a result of his work," says the scholarship description. "Though Mr. Belcher lost his battle with cancer in 1989, his courage inspired all who knew him." As the District nominee, Harris now has the opportunity to apply for a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student in each of MSBA's 17 regions. Following the selection of regional winners, a statewide winner is chosen and will receive an additional $1,500 scholarship. West Plains, MO. - The West Plains School District Board of Education has appointed Lucas Brown as the high school principal for the 2022 - 2023 school year. The decision follows the appointment of Matthew Orchard as the incoming Director of Human Resources and Student Services. Mr. Brown has served as the Glenwood R-VIII School District principal since 2019. Before becoming the principal, Mr. Brown served as a teacher and assistant principal at Thayer R-II School District. "The West Plains School District has much to celebrate with the recent hiring of new leadership. I am excited to welcome Mr. Brown to the leadership team. He will be a great asset to the West Plains High School, students, and staff. Our interview team unanimously recommended him, and the board unanimously approved his contract", said Dr. Wesley Davis. Mr. Brown holds an Educational Leadership Specialist from Arkansas State University. His Bachelor's degree is in Social Science from Missouri State Univ
