battling 18 active fires, covering large patches ahead of the fire trying to stop the spread. two firefighters have died. the pk fire, more than 150 homes have burned in that fire. residents there just now getting to see what s left. patrick oppen was there as they returned to their neighborhoods. reporter: days after wildfires ripped through their community, residents are seeing the aftermath up close. hundreds of evacuees wait in a line stretching miles, worried and frustrated, trying to stretch on their homes. we re allowing residents from four of the affected communities to go back in and check on the status of their property. reporter: residents from texas brace themselves for more
over texas but it will. a chance of severe weather in dallas-ft. worth, probably hail. the western half of the state, western third from amarillo, still very dry out there. not a cloud in the sky. it s going to than way for the next couple of days. but there will be an awful lot of rainfall in the forecast. kind of have to give you a map here. there would be kansas. here s oklahoma. and then here s texas. okay. so not great, but it s raining. and that s where most of the fire activity is, anyway. the pk fire right about there. other fires here to the west of dfw, that s great. this is five days worth of rainfall. in some spots in arkansas they could pick up 11 inches of rain in the next five days because the humidity s. the mugginess is in dallas and shreveport and austin. temperatures are warm but not dry. dry is way out in the west. albuquerque, blubbock. current rainfall. storms moving through jackson, hattiesburg and showers popping
newspaper editor. he gave up solid lood ffood for. storm cleanup is under way in alabama. high winds moved through yesterday snapping trees and utility poles and knocking out power. and more severe weather potentially for parts of the southeastern united states today. it was a convoluted way of getting to you, jacqui jeras. there s storms expected in the southeast. tell us about them. they ve been going on throughout the morning. our other big weather story are the fires and that danger that continues. we ve got incredible pictures we want to show you from the pk fire that we ve been talking about, the opossum kingdom. just amazing photos. take a look at that. the smoke. you know, i don t know if you ve ever been to a wildfire, carol, but it is it just envelops
of dallas. and chad, we were talking to ed lavandara earlier and he was at the possum kingdom lake, and we understand that the fire there has doubled in size overnight? yes. is this going to continue because of the awful conditions there? no question today. i am even watching the satellite video coming down and streaming down our satellites, and there are quite a few homes that are gone, literally, from around the lake. that is the smoke from the pk fire, and then there are many, many more fires out here. here is dallas, texas, and kind of i-35 and 35-w and on up to oklahoma, but there is a wild cat fire out here and cooper mountain ranch fire here. this is all brought to you by nasa and an image that the satellites can look down to see so much fire and smoke that you can pick it up on the satellite. that s not a good sign. that means that there lease a lot of smoke and fire out there. and something else that you were talking about is the severe weather potential, and a brand new
