The artist, dressed in black (other than for a hoodie with her album cover on it) sings the tune in a plain, black studio, gesticulating the lyrics as the piano plays behind her voice. “It’s a promise song,” said Beth, whose real name is Camille Berthomier, in a statement. “I wrote the verses on a plane as I was convinced it was going to crash. I was making promises to myself about what I was going to do differently if I survived. Death has been very present in my mind during the process of writing this record. This week is the 10th anniversary of PJ Harvey s eighth album Let England Shake. Drawing on stories of war for lyrical and musical inspiration, the record was a change in direction which earned the acclaimed UK artist her second Mercury Music Prize. She toured the album to our shores at the start of 2012, and the triple j live music team captured this spectacular show at the State Theatre in Sydney as part of Sydney Festival. Featuring long-time collaborators John Parish and Jean-Marc Butty, this show covers songs from that acclaimed album, as well as some of the finest songs from across her career.
